Role overview

About this role

Man's impact on the environment is now firmly established as a major public concern and a key political issue around the world. The aviation community is under increasing pressure to address its own environmental impacts, with the need for action heightened by the continuing rise in global traffic. Aircraft noise continues to be a major source of public complaint around airports, while aircraft engine emissions have effects on local air quality. Such emissions also affect the global atmosphere and thus contribute to climate change, perhaps the major challenge for the future. The aviation community is making considerable efforts to tackle its environmental impacts at the international, regional and national levels. As a result, the environment now ranks as one of the sector's key priorities alongside the more traditional ones of safety and security. This course provides senior executives with an overview of aviation's environmental impacts and the measures being taken to address them, so as to facilitate an understanding of how this subject now contributes to the development of aviation policy.
Content

Learning Objectives: On completion of the course, the participant will have an appreciation of: The general concept and definition of "sustainable development" The major impacts related to aircraft operations, namely noise and gaseous emissions The key items of related regulation and legislation The measures already taken and planned to reduce aviation impacts The environmental problems associated with the design, manufacture and disposal of aircraft, and the operation of airports The organisations involved in this work and their respective contributions and responsibilities.

Target Group: The course is primarily intended for senior government officials who currently have limited knowledge of aviation environmental issues and who require an appreciation of the subject in their current/future role. However, it is considered that the course would be of benefit to senior officials from other aviation stakeholders, such as airlines, manufacturers and airports, and their participation is also encouraged

Duration: One full day, starting at 0900 and ending at approx 1700.

Click on the apply button to view further information on each course
