Aviation and the Environment With option to reserve examination

The requirement for civil aviation to address its environmental impact has become a major political and public issue, with the need for action strengthened by the continuing growth in air traffic. Aircraft noise continues to be a source of complaint and concern around airports, while the effects of aircraft engine emissions on local air quality and human health have now assumed importance in the decision process regarding airport expansion. Finally, engine emissions affect the global atmosphere and contribute to climate change, representing probably the major challenge to aviation in the future. *Considerable efforts are being made to address the environmental impact of aviation, at the international, regional and national level. All organisations involved in this effort agree that the environment now ranks as a subject requiring priority action by the aviation community, alongside those of safety and security. This training course therefore seeks to provide an introduction to the nature of aviation's environmental impacts, the action being taken to address them and the contribution of this important subject to the development of aviation policy. <br />Content <br /> <br />Learning Objectives: <br /> <br />Target Group: The course is primarily intended for government officials who currently have limited knowledge of the subject and who will either be employed on environment-related duties or who require an appreciation of the subject in their current/future role.
