About this role
JAR-FSTD A is applicable to all flight training devices regarding aeroplanes, from full flight simulators to BITD devices. Helicopters are not discussed in this course. The JAR-FSTD is applicable from 1998 onwards. It is about the requirements placed on operators like the need for safe operation, a good working quality system (to ensure the operator is able to maintain the device up to the required standards), maintaining and updating the device (modifications, etc), maintaining a link with the aeroplane manufacturers and simulator manufacturers. But it is about the objective testing of the simulator as well. It describes all the required tests for qualification and the related issues like engineering data, motion, visual, control loading and sound issues.<br /> <br />Concluding: JAR-FSTD A is applicable to all flight training devices regarding aeroplanes. It is about the requirements placed on operators like the need for safe operation, a good working quality system, maintaining and updating the device, maintaining a link with the manufacturers. It is also detailing the objective testing of the simulator, all the required tests for qualification and the related issues. <br /><br />With the transition to EASA the JAR-FSTD is under review. NPA-22 gives details about this proposed changes and will be discussed during this course as well. Harmonisation efforts between JAA and FAA have resulted in ICAO document 9625 third edition.
