<p>We are currently seekling a Senior Mechanical Designer for our client based on the South Coast in the UK to provide design leadership on allocated jobs with particular emphasis on mechanical design.</p> <p>Main Responsibilities and Tasks:<br /> 1. Preparation of schemes for mechanical design for aircraft, aircraft modifications or projects arising from Customer specifications or approved Research and Development tasks.<br /> 2. Liaison with all other technical specialisations with the Design Office in order to produce coherent and comprehensive design solutions and packages.<br /> 3. Conversion of schemes into working drawings.<br /> 4. Compilation of modification leaflets and associated reports relating to new design tasks.<br /> 5. To assist in the training of junior personnel within the department, as requested.<br /> 6. Approve drawings, modifications and other appropriate Company documents for mechanical design approval within the scope of authority of their individual approval as promulgated in the DO Handbook.<br /> 7. To liaise with equipment suppliers to ensure that the company is aware of current and new products on the world aviation market.<br /> 8. Inform equipment suppliers by means of Design Specifications or correspondence of new equipment requirements.<br /> 9. Liaise with equipment suppliers to resolve in-service problems.<br /> 10. Deal with customers’ mechanical engineering problems and provide them with acceptable solutions, in conjunction with the Service Department.<br /> 11. To supply mechanical engineering information to enable the compilation of Maintenance Manuals, Illustrated Parts Lists, Service Bulletins and Maintenance Schedules to the Technical Publications Department and to proof read and approve for technical accuracy.<br /> 12. To manage proving and/or acceptance trials on mechanical equipment. To fault find and rectify problems found and to prepare test and design office reports.<br /> 13. To analyse and decide on courses of action for DQFs, NCRs, Production Permits and Concessions relating to mechanical engineering.<br /> 14. To work in close co-operation with Production Engineering and Production Departments to ensure smooth implementation of design requirements.<br /> 15. To provide technical support to the buying department by providing buying lists and approving alternatives parts.<br /> 16. To provide technical support and assistance to QA department staff in relation to major fault finding and corrections, as required.<br /> 17. To participate in the efficient and timely system of dealing with internal design enquiries in liaison with the Stress Office.<br /> 18. To answer internal department queries regarding materials and processes.<br /> 19. To occasionally represent mechanical design at meetings.<br /> 20. To undertake any special tasks as directed by their superiors.<br /> 21. Responsible for issuing and distributing of technical information.<br /> 22. Supervision of specific projects, designers and sub-contractors.<br /> 23. Liaison with EASA/CAA, MoD and other regulators as required by the Head of the Office of Airworthiness or Head of Design.<br /> 24. Responsible for assisting with responding to RFQ’s.</p> <p> </p> <p>Specialist Knowledge<br /> 1. The ability to work to tight deadlines<br /> 2. Engineering Design<br /> 3. Ability to work in small teams<br /> 4. Good communicator<br /> 5. Detailed knowledge of mechanical design and certification issues<br /> 6. Detailed knowledge of current airworthiness requirements (e.g. CS, FAR etc)</p> <p>Experience<br /> 1. Design Office<br /> 2. Shop floor/ manufacturing<br /> 3. Mechanical design<br /> 4. Experience in an aerospace design environment<br /> 5. Experience of dealing with CAA/EASA</p> <p>Education/ Qualifications<br /> 1. Engineering Apprenticeship in aircraft or similar allied industries<br /> 2. CAD Training<br /> 3.
