This covers everything from conceptual design schemes through detailed design of complex mechanisms and systems and on to certification and qualification of the products for use on aircraft. <br /> <br />The Design Engineer is a functional role within the design department involved in conceptual and detail design of aircraft undercarriages. Responsible to the Chief Designer the role will specifically involve:- <br /> <br />Conceptual design & feasibility <br />Assessment of electrical technologies and incorporation into company products <br />Electrical actuation, instrumentation and sensors <br />Understanding impact to product architecture <br />Introduction of instrumentation & sensors onto company products. <br /> <br />Detailed design: <br /> <br />Creation of CAD drawings (CATIA V5) for mechanical systems on new product developments (BS308 & internal stds.) <br /> <br />Impact and requirements of aircraft systems to support products <br />Stress & fatigue loads, electro-mechanical interfaces and safety functions <br />Specification of equipment and test specifications for compliance with airworthiness requirements <br />Evaluation of non-conformances to design acceptance criteria <br /> <br />Qualification & Manufacturing test equipment <br /> <br />Control systems and electrical interfaces of test rigs <br />Test equipment within manufacturing <br />From cable harness testers to LabView controlled DAQ systems <br /> <br />Design documentation <br /> <br />Creation of specification & regulatory deliverables such as, but not restricted to: <br />Product Specifications <br />Safety & reliability reports <br />Qualification test instructions & reports <br /> <br />SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED: <br /> <br />Min 1 full product life-cycle in mechanical engineering role (ideally in aerospace industry) <br />Degree (2:1) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent <br /> <br />Strong working knowledge of: <br /> <br />GD&T principles <br />Structural systems & engineering <br />Hydraulic systems & engineering <br /> <br />Experience with: <br /> <br />Fatigue analysis, structural analysis, component sizing, FEA (structural & hydraulic), corrosion protection methods, metallization processes, basic metallurgy knowledge & application to materials selection, forgings. <br />NPD tools & methods: requirements engineering, stage-gate process, root-cause analysis, DfX methods, statistical analysis techniques (& Minitab) <br />National & International aircraft design & testing standards <br /> <br />Forward looking creative & innovative problem solver <br /> <br />Good analytical skills <br /> <br />Significant knowledge of technologies both inside and outside of primary field of operation <br /> <br />Good communicator & presentation skills <br /> <br />Good interpersonal & negotiation skills <br /> <br />ADDITIONAL NOTES: <br /> <br />This is a developing role that will significantly impact the direction of the development of the wider department. It thus requires a person with a proactive "can-do" attitude mixed with personal drive and motivation to embrace the changes and encourage others through.
