<p>Job Title: Flight Physics Principal Engineer</p> <p>Overall Purpose of the Job:<br /> To deliver the Flight Physics Specialist Technical capability within the Helicopter Business Group that meets the business objectives of Air Division.</p> <p>Reports to Head of Specialist Capability for Flight Physics, Air Division</p> <p>Responsible for: Direct Reports – Flight Physics Engineers</p> <p>Key Accountabilities:</p> <p>The jobholder is accountable for:</p> <p>o Leading aspects of the Flight Physics Specialist Technical area to meet current and future business need<br /> o Delivering Flight Physics Specialist Technical advice to meet the business requirement<br /> o Appropriately utilising Technical processes, methods and tools within the Specialist area to deliver the business<br /> o Ensuring and where so delegated assuring the quality of the Technical outputs from the Specialist area<br /> o Supporting the Specialist Technical interface with other parts of QinetiQ<br /> o Supporting the Engineering and Technical interface with Customers and Suppliers when required for the Specialist area<br /> o Providing Flight Physics Specialist Technical support to Business Development and Sales<br /> o Promoting continuous improvement to ensuring that the specialist Technical capability retains a ‘world class’ standard<br /> o Working as an integrated part of a Delivery Stream<br /> o Working as a key part of the Flight Physics Technical Capability team</p> <p>Scope and Impact:</p> <p>o Leading specific Flight Physics Specialist Technical activities<br /> o Utilising Specialist Technical processes, methods and tools<br /> o Supporting the development and retention of a ‘world class’ capability to provide Customers with independent Specialist Technical advice<br /> o Delivery of Specialist Technical output that meets business objectives</p> <p>Key Decision making areas of the Position:</p> <p>o Specialist Technical risk assessment and mitigation<br /> o Specialist Technical delivery for current and future work<br /> o Assurance of the Technical output from the Specialist area, including compliance with Safety requirements</p> <p>Role Dimensions:</p> <p>o Team overall size 5 - 10 staff<br /> o Team scope coverings one aspect of the Helicopter Business Flight Physics Specialist Technical area</p> <p>Successful outcomes of this role:</p> <p>o Specialist Technical delivery meets business need<br /> o Specialist Technical team are fulfilled in their work<br /> o Customers recognise Air Division as providing ‘world class’ Technical Advice in the specific Specialist area<br /> o Governance is sound</p> <p>Challenges:</p> <p>o Working within a new Specialist Technical team with new ways of working<br /> o Ensuring specific Specialist Technical Governance is applied to current and future work<br /> o supporting the specialist Technical team’s capability through well founded training, development and progression of staff</p> <p>PERSON SPECIFICATION</p> <p>Essential Education, Qualifications and Training<br /> o Recognised aerospace qualification – at least HNC level</p> <p>Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required<br /> o Sound knowledge in the Flight Physics Specialist Technical area<br /> o Technical experience throughout the air vehicle life cycle<br /> o Ability to make sound Technical judgements in the Flight Physics specialist area<br /> o Technical leadership experience in an Aerospace organisation<br /> o Customer interface experience in an Aerospace organisation<br /> o Supplier interface experience in an Aerospace organisation<br /> o Sound knowledge of Technical Governance<br /> o Accountability for authorising Specialist Technical input to aircraft safety</p> <p>Essential Personal Qualities and Behavioural Requirements <br /> o Recognised as ‘world class’ Specialist Technical leader<br /> o Good team player<br /> o Ability to work well under pressure<br /> o Able to stand behind judgement</p> <p>Desirable Criteria<br /> o Engineering degree<br /> o Chartered Engineer<br /> o Experience of working in or with MoD and the Services at senior level</p> <p>The person who will occupy this job will be Office based</p> <p>With heavy use of: Display Screen Equipment<br /> <br /> Position Requirements: You will be encouraged to think and do things differently. Customer is the largest and most respected science and technology organisations in Europe, they are constantly breaking new ground in the application of cutting-edge technology in our core markets of defence and security.</p> <p>They currently have an exciting opportunity for Flight Physics Principal Engineer to provide specialist technical Flight Physics support and advice and be responsible for the safe and effective conduct of specific test and evaluation tasks within our Air Division business area.</p> <p>Being part of the customers Air Division, with over 1800 staff, is comparable to working in an airframe integration environment or large prime aerospace supplier. Numerous highly integrated programmes and projects spanning several technical disciplines and domains run concurrently, which require leadership and management. Every programme has a strong customer and operational need, and this results in a working environment that is fast paced, highly dynamic, challenging, exciting, and fulfilling.</p> <p>Activities in the Air Division encompass the full lifecycle of product development, ranging from the technical evaluation of new platforms through to the support of existing in service fleets, at mission and aircraft level. The scope of technical activities spans all engineering disciplines, ranging from human sciences through to structures, flight physics, systems, and avionics. This breadth of engineering activity, coupled with active programmes, at all stages of the product life cycle, on multiple platforms, ranging from helicopters and fast jets to unmanned air vehicles and air support, makes the QinetiQ Air Division one of the most challenging and exciting organisations in the world in which to work.</p> <p>You will have sound aircraft knowledge, a knowledge of aircraft test and evaluation principles and a good knowledge of general aircraft operation. You will be an excellent communicator and be able to engage with stakeholders across the business as well as external customers.
