Located at its airport HQ in Cambridge, plus with offices in Australia, Canada and Netherlands they are perfectly placed at the forefront of today's Aerospace industry. <br />Due to a period of growth they are seeking to appoint the services of a Flight Dynamics Engineer to join their operation based in rural Cambridgeshire. <br />Aircraft which are modified in some way to change their external shape or system performance require an assessment to quantify the effect that the modification has on the aircraft's aerodynamic performance, or stability and control characteristics to determine the safe operating envelope of the aircraft and provide necessary information to other Aircraft Design Office departments and Flight Crew. The ideal candidate will perform such assessments by the practical application of theoretical knowledge gained from a Masters degree in Aeronautical Engineering using new or existing technologies to develop analyses or test methods. This might require the development of new technologies, promotion of advanced design methods, introduction of new, more efficient techniques and management methods. <br />Job: <br />*External Aerodynamic Assessment <br />The laws of mathematics, thermodynamics, aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, statics, dynamics, strength of materials and computational limitations are applicable to nearly every aspect of work as a Flight Dynamics Engineer in the Aircraft Design Office. <br />*Aircraft performance handling <br />An aircraft's motion can be described by the application of Newton's Second Law of Motion, differential calculus and matrix algebra. These laws can be applied to any aircraft to describe its performance and handling. <br />*Computer literacy including scientific/technical software <br />The design and analysis of most components that are attached to aerospace vehicles requires the use of a disparate range of computational tools. In the field of Flight Dynamics, it is essential to have an expert knowledge of software tools that facilitate the study of aerodynamics, aircraft performance, aircraft stability and control. Such tools employed in the Aircraft Design Office are CFDesign, MatLab, Simulink, Nastran for Windows, Patran, Catia, NSoft, and Excel. It is also necessary to appreciate the limitations imposed by hardware specifications on the performance of more complex analyses. <br />*Analytical skills <br />The vocation of a Flight Dynamicist will often involve him with the interpretation of data obtained from a flight test. During such periods of labour, it is incumbent upon the engineer to possess the ability to process the potentially large quantity of information that may describe a particular aircraft manoeuvre. This process requires the collation and careful interpretation of parameters recorded by a variety of sources, which might include: human hand recording, voice recording, video recording, analogue or digital recording to a medium such as magnetic tape or PCM. These sources of flight test data have to be organised into a logical order to be able to interpret correctly the behaviour of the test aircraft during post flight analysis. Flight testing can be an expensive occupation when measured as an hourly rate, however, the progress of the design of a new aircraft or engine may rest on the quality of the data obtained from a flight test. The quality of this data can only be determined through thorough post flight analysis. It can therefore be seen how fundamentally important is the ability to perform analysis in the Flight Dynamics Group.</p>
