About this role

<p>Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs) are responsible for the provision of Air Traffic Services in accordance with National and International Rules and Requirements within the Baghdad FIR appropriate to the ratings held. They are also responsible for providing On the Job Training Instruction to student air traffic controllers.</p> <p><br /> Tasks designated to the position include the following:<br /> -Provision of area control service / approach control service / aerodrome control service as appropriate, as well as flight information service and alerting service to aircraft operating in the Baghdad FIR. The control services can be procedural or with the use of surveillance equipment.<br /> -Maintain a thorough operational knowledge and understanding of the equipment and systems used for the provision of air traffic services in the Baghdad FIR.<br /> -Monitor, record and report the serviceability status of equipment essential to the provision of ATC services during the period of watch; ensuring that NOTAM action is taken as required.<br /> -Provide OJT facilities whilst on watch to ensure the continued progression of Iraqi trainee ATCO`s as well as ex-pat ATCOs requiring validation, producing regular and comprehensive training reports as required by the Customer.<br /> -Initiate emergency response plus search and rescue operations as required.<br /> -Distribute meteorological information necessary for the safe and orderly handling of air traffic.<br /> -Ensure that they are fully briefed on all aspects of the operation prior to taking over watch, and ensuring that the oncoming controller is fully briefed prior to handing over watch.<br /> -Report failures, abnormal occurrences or any other conditions likely to constitute a safety hazard.<br /> -Comply with staff instructions and administrative rules pertaining to conduct in the operational area.<br /> -Provide operational feedback to management on all aspects of the operation including procedures and systems.<br /> -Report any operational incidents as and when they occur to operational management using the correct reporting procedure.<br /> -Practice professionalism and politeness to all users of services provided by the ICAA and to other staff in Air Traffic Services.<br /> -Fulfil as required all other duties related to the role of an Air Traffic Control Officer.</p> <p>Scope and Complexity<br /> -Interfaces and required to influence Iraqi OJT students in order to develop the highest standard of air traffic controller for integration into ICAA`s Air Traffic Services section.<br /> -Typically has no direct reports.</p> <p>Knowledge<br /> -Comprehensive knowledge of relevant ICAO documentation, in particular Annex 2, Annex 11 and<br /> Doc 4444.<br /> -Comprehensive knowledge of ATC procedures, standards maintenance and OJT training.<br /> -Basic knowledge of aviation safety management systems.</p> <p>Skills<br /> -Ability to prepare written reports as and when required, including training reports.<br /> -Possess excellent report writing skills.<br /> -A mature, proactive and responsible approach to work with initiative and problem solving capability.<br /> -Ability to liaise in a professional and persuasive manner with staff at all levels in the organisation.<br /> -Ability to understand complex systems and possess good IT skills.<br /> -Flexibility, excellent attention to detail, ability to identify key issues and manage an environment of regular change.<br /> -Able to hold sensitive and confidential materials in strict confidence.<br /> -Able to work independently under stringent deadlines within a high pressure environment.<br /> -Function as a resourceful and proactive team member.<br /> -Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and multi-task<br /> -Be able to meet deadlines and schedules.<br /> -Ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams.<br /> -Good judgment and decision-making skills.<br /> -Adapt well to changing priorities.<br /> -An assertive completer finisher with high level personal presence and credibility.<br /> -Ability to align strategic and operational needs with training programs and organisational development efforts.<br /> -Ability to see problems as opportunities and to manage well under pressure.<br /> -Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and in speaking and convey complex information in an easily understood format.<br /> -In-depth ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.<br /> Qualifications and Experience<br /> -A current ATCO licence with a minimum of 5 years civil experience in the ratings required.<br /> -A valid ATCO medical.<br /> -English Language ICAO level 4 or higher<br /> -A current OJTI rating with a minimum 1 year civil experience as an OJTI.<br /> -Experience in the evaluation of student performance and subsequent delivery of relevant reports.<br /> -Experience as an LCE would be an advantage.<br /> -An Examiner`s rating would be an advantage.<br /> -Experience in a multi-cultural environment an asset.<br /> -Middle East experiences an asset.</p> <p>Note: Air Traffic Controllers working in Baghdad are required to live in a purpose built camp and due to security restrictions are not permitted to leave the Baghdad International Airport secure zone. Individuals should therefore possess the temperament to live and work within a closed community.</p>
