As part of this support QinetiQ manages the Empire Test Pilots’ School (ETPS) in partnership with the Ministry of Defence - a vital support solution requiring trust and integrity.<br /> <br /> As part of a drive to increase capacity and delivery excellence, QinetiQ is looking to fill the role of <strong>Rotary Wing Test Pilot</strong> as follows.<br /> <br /> Rotary Wing (RW) Test Pilot duties including Rotary Wing Test and Evaluation Squadron (RWTES) flight trials, document review and possibly instruction on the Empire Test Pilots’ School (ETPS) RW courses<br /> &nbsp;<br /> <strong>Key Accountabilities:</strong></p> <p>The job holder may be required to work on either RWTES or ETPS and will be accountable to the Head of QinetiQ Aircrew for:</p> <ul> <li>Planning, delivering and reporting the full range of ATEC RW flight trials</li> <li>Technical review of QinetiQ Trials Instructions and Customer Reports</li> <li>Contributing to course development for all ETPS training and delivering a range of ground school lectures and in-flight instructional sorties to both test pilot and flight test engineer students.</li> <li>Assessing and grading ETPS student flying and reporting standards and mentoring and providing constructive debriefing and feedback, thereby enhancing flight safety and accelerating learning.</li> <li>Timely and efficient delivery of other tasks as directed by the Head of QinetiQ Aircrew</li> </ul> <p><strong>Successful outcomes of this role:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Delivery of world class flight trials</li> <li>Delivery of world class flight test training</li> </ul> <p><strong>Challenges:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Safely delivering ATEC helicopter flight trials to the highest possible standards</li> <li>Teaching all aspects of RW flight test theory and practical techniques to experienced multi-national aircrew, to enable students of all nationalities to understand and apply the associated complex principles</li> <li>Contributing to the continuing high standards of aviation safety inherent in ATEC helicopter flying operations</li> </ul> <p><br /> <u><strong>Person Specification</strong></u></p> <p><strong>Essential Education, Qualifications and Training:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Qualified RW Test Pilot having graduated from one of the 4 MoD-recognised Test Pilot Schools (ETPS, USNTPS, USAFTPS or EPNER)</li> </ul> <p><strong>Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Broad and extensive experience within the flight test community; must have completed at least one tour, on a national flight test squadron/unit, engaged on a range of significant projects.</li> <li>A sound knowledge of the performance and stability &amp; control of helicopters.</li> <li>Ability to teach on the ground and instruct in the air</li> <li>Ability to lead, motivate, inspire and mentor</li> <li>Skilled with MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint</li> <li>First rate organisational and administrative skills</li> </ul> <p><strong>Essential Personal Qualities and Behavioural Requirements:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Medically fit to gain an unrestricted UK MoD aircrew medical category</li> <li>Able to meet the normal security requirements of QinetiQ personnel at Boscombe Down</li> <li>Team player with excellent inter-personal skills</li> <li>Patient, and willing to be flexible.</li> </ul> <p><u><strong>Desirable Criteria</strong></u></p> <ul> <li>Significant Support Helicopter experience</li> <li>Significant ship helicopter operations and deck landing experience</li> <li>Significant experience of Ship Helicopter Operating Limit (SHOL) trials</li> <li>In-flight instructional experience, preferably as an A2 QHI or Test Pilot Instructor (TPI)</li> <li>Civilian Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence (ATPL) or Commercial Pilots’ Licence (CPL)</li> <li>Civilian RW instructional experience/rating</li> <li>Competent to Instruct (CtoI) on QinetiQ Common User Fleet aeroplanes (Gazelle, A109E, Sea King)</li> <li>In current flying practice (at least 50 hrs P1 in the previous 12 months) with regency in a test flying role.</li> </ul> <p>To apply, please click on the ‘Apply now' button.</p>
