Together we develop battle-winning technologies, based on deep and widespread research, to support UK military operations, now and in the future.</p> <p>As a Technician in Nucleonic Instrumentation Services (NIS), you’ll help us keep the MoD’s radiation detection and monitoring equipment in perfect working order. In this varied and vital role, you’ll diagnose faults in installed and handheld radiation detection and monitoring devices, and then repair them. Your work will include radiological testing and calibration activities, and involve leading small technical work programmes. There’ll also be the opportunity to provide technical advice, test irradiations and evaluations once you’re up to speed. Expect some travel to UK MoD sites and to be part of the RNERO (Radiological &amp; Nuclear Emergency Response Organisation) on-call roster.</p> <p>To join us, you’ll need an ONC/HNC (or equivalent) in a scientific or engineering discipline such as Physics or Electrical Engineering. We’ll provide you with initial guidance and training, but you must have experience of electrical, electronic and electromechanical systems. You should be good at fault-finding and able to work at component-level, without the use of ATE (Automatic Test Equipment). We’ll also expect you to be adept at re-working multi-layer and through hole and SMT circuit boards. You’ll combine your technical expertise with initiative; lateral thinking; attention to detail; and a logical, methodical approach. Thanks to these qualities, you’ll be proactive about solving problems and conscientious when validating and testing work.
