About this role

Senior Crew Planner – Crew Plan LH

Background

Norwegian is the second largest airline in Scandinavia and the third largest low-cost airline in Europe with approximately 4500 employees. Norwegian operates 424 routes to 130 destinations in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Thailand and the US. In 2014, 24 million passengers flew with the airline, which has been listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange since 2003

Norwegian has experienced significant growth over the previous years by introducing brand new aircraft to its fleet, launching many new routes and establishing new bases in Europe, Asia and the US. Continued fleet expansion through Europe’s largest ever single aircraft order and establishment of new international bases entails a major increase of flight deck and cabin crew resources to make sure flights are operating as scheduled. The planning and management of our crew resources is therefore essential to our continued success. With our planned future growth and increased focus on Long Haul operations, Norwegian has decided to strengthen its current Crew Planning department with a new planning centre in Barcelona To secure correct and cost-efficient staffing of our operations, Norwegian is looking to hire a Senior Crew Planner to its Flight Deck team for Long Haul operations.

Role description

As Senior Crew Planner in Norwegian, you will play a significant part in establishing the new planning centre in Barcelona as part of our new shared services organization serving all Norwegian’s AOCs. The centre will initially be equipped with functions to provide roster planning, training coordination and replanning, and will have a strong interface towards the Crew Management organization at our headquarters in Fornebu, Norway. You will be tasked with heading this satellite team on a day-to-day basis and cooperate closely with stakeholders to build this unit rapidly and effectively.

Key tasks as Senior Crew Planner will include the preparation and release of duty rosters for our flight deck resources in our Long Haul operations. The planning will focus on ensuring high utilization of our resources and full compliance with applicable rules and regulations. You will simultaneously be responsible for following up and coordinating the rest of the team.

As a senior planner, you are expected to take on the role as a subject matter expert on crew roster planning and applicable rules and regulation. In addition, we are looking for candidates who can bolster our Long Haul planning by finding and introducing innovative and effective solutions.

Qualifications

We are ideally looking for candidates with a Bachelor or Masters degree in Economics, Mathematics, Logistics, Analysis, Transport or Optimization – although this is not essential. A minimum of 5-10 years’ relevant experience within the aviation industry is required, preferably within Long Haul operations. Relevant experience can compensate for lack of formal experience. Candidates must have senior leadership experience and demonstrate ability to motivate co-workers.

Advanced level of skill in Excel is required and deep knowledge of crew scheduling systems, Netline would be an advantage.

At a more personal level, you should be accurate and highly structured with strong logistical and communicative abilities. English fluency is required. You should be able to balance your attention to detail with the ability to see the bigger picture across AOCs, have a strong drive for developing a planning unit and a focus on continuous improvements. An understanding of the Scandinavian working culture is an advantage.

Opportunities

Working for Norwegian you have the opportunity to form your career within a rapid-growing organisation that challenges the airline-industry every day. The position is particularly independent and gives a great possibility for further career development – both inside Norwegian and through the successful development of the new planning centre.
