<p><p>Boeings Defense, Space and Security currently has openings for Aerospace Technicians (Fabrication Specialist-Level C).These positions are with the Boeing Exploration Launch Systems supporting production of the NASA SLS Core Stage and are based at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana.</p><p><p>Boeing and NASA are building the world's largest rocket for human exploration of deep space. The Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavy-lift capability, powering people and cargo beyond our moon and into deep space to enable diverse exploration, science and security missions.</p><p><p>Boeing is the prime contractor for the design, development, test and production of the massive core stage, and development of the avionics.</p><p><p>The minimum core competencies and expectations for this experienced position include:</p><p><p>Knowledge: Has a full understanding of the job.</p><p>Problem Solving: Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Refers to practices and procedures for guidance.</p><p>Discretion: Requires no instruction for routine work and general instructions for new lines of work or special assignments; supervision is limited. Participates in determining details of assignments to accomplish a wide range of objectives. Plans, schedules, and arranges own activities. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.</p><p>Communication: Interacts frequently with internal and external personnel and customers. Obtains or provides information on important or sensitive organization matters.</p><p><p><b>Position Responsibilities</b>:</p><ul><li>Perform advanced, specialized or prototype production operations of major space structures.</li><li>Utilizing predetermined setups and operating methods, adjust and simultaneously operate a variety of numerically controlled and/or conventional equipment capable of performing various functions such as, but not limited to, forming, bonding, welding, machining, drilling, cutting, robotic and otherwise automated and/or manual assembly.</li><li>Perform all tasks involved in the preparation, set up and operation of thermal processing tools and equipment.</li><li>Interpret standard work instructions, charts, tables, blueprints, formulas, sketches, verbal and electronic orders, job layouts, etc, to accomplish assigned work.</li><li>Ensure that all equipment is used in accordance with established safety and operating procedures.</li><li>Conduct routine preventative work to maintain and ensure cleanliness of equipment.</li><li>Diagnose and correct malfunctions occurring in machining and/or assembly process.</li><li>Perform necessary drilling, riveting, assembly or subassembly, including bonding and sealing as required.</li><li>Use any and all precision measuring instruments, gauges, tools, etc - necessary to check machine readiness and to check completed parts for finish, dimensions and conformance to quality requirements.</li><li>Perform all tasks involved in the coordination, preparation, and movement of material and tools.</li><li>Operate a forklift, mobile crane, and riding type electric powered elevatin equipment to accomplish work assignment.</li><li>Maintain necessary certifications, licenses and permits as required for assigned work.</li><li>Work with engineering, planning, research engineers, etc - to originate and develop new procedures, techniques and production aids to facility equipment operations and to support design and implementation of new products.</li></ul><p><p><b>This position requires the ability to obtain a clearance for access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.</b></p><p><p><b>This is a sensitive/safety-sensitive position and is subject to NASA (DOT) random drug and alcohol testing.</b></p><p><p><b>This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a US Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. US Person includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.</b></p><p><p><b>Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):</b></p><ul><li>HS diploma or GED</li><li>Ability to travel 10%</li><li>Ability to work variable shift</li><li>Ability perform necessary drilling, riveting, assembly or subassembly, including bonding and sealing as required.</li><li>Ability and experience leading tasks</li><li>Ability to ascend and descend vertical work ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift loads of approximately 35 pounds</li><li>Experience or training in reading and interpreting drawings or blueprints</li><li>Minimum of 4 years of experience in aerospace, fabrication, or manufacturing</li><li>Minimum of 4 years of mechanical or electrical experience</li><li>Must be willing to work any shift dictated by business need</li></ul><p><p><b>Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):</b></p><ul><li>Previous experience with NASA and/or other aerospace customers</li></ul><p><p><b>Typical Education/Experience:</b></p><ul><li>High school diploma or GED and typically 4 or more years' related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</li></ul><p><p>Boeing is the world's largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial airplanes and defense, space and security systems.
