<p>An exciting opportunity has become available to join Boeing Defence UK as an <b>Unix Systems Administrator</b> either based in <b><b>Bristol</b></b>, UK<b></b>or <b>Milton Keynes,</b> UK.</p><p><p>This post is for a UNIX administrator to join the Infrastructure Team as part of the Unix Team and will be jointly responsible for the day to day support and maintenance of the UNIX estate.</p><p><p>The UNIX estate covers 2 programmes, Ministry of Defence Support Chain Information Services (MoD SCIS) and Boeing Defence UK IT (BDUK IT).</p><p><p>This includes monitoring the Service Management tool for Incidents, Problems, Service Requests and Change tasks to ensure we are improving the quality and adherence to contractual SLA and KPI requirements of the programme within Boeing Defence UK (BDUK).</p><p><p>This is a hands-on role whereby the successful candidate will need to be highly skilled in multiple UNIX disciplines with an appreciation of other related Infrastructure disciplines including networking and storage. There will be the requirement to work with other teams to ensure the smooth delivery of Projects and identify opportunities for improvement through automation techniques. The successful candidate will need to have strong communication and Team working skills.</p><p><br />BDUK IT is responsible for delivering IT services to a number of customers both internal and external throughout the UK. The Unix Administrator is part of the Infrastructure Team working closely alongside other technical teams, service management and programme functions.</p><p><p><p>This role will be responsible for:</p><ul><li><p>Maintaining documentation</p></li><li><p>Performing daily administrative tasks</p></li><li><p>Supporting the UNIX team Leader in delivering UNIX related tasks</p></li><li><p>Identify areas of improvement</p></li><li><p>Support the delivery of an automated Infrastructure</p></li><li><p>Perform patching activities</p></li><li><p>Work closely with other teams across the business to improve efficiency</p></li><li><p>Fault diagnosis including problem statements and mitigation planning</p></li></ul><p><p><p>The successful candidate will be expected to be part of a 24x7 on-call team and provide extended hours support via a team rota.</p><p><p><p>Experience and knowledge will be required in the following areas:</p><ul><li><p>Experience in a UNIX and RedHat role</p></li><li><p>Good UNIX/Linux systems administration skills, including configuration, troubleshooting and scripting.</p></li><li><p>Troubleshooting and performance tuning experience.</p></li><li><p>Excellent communication skills both written and verbal</p></li><li><p>Strong organisational skills</p></li><li><p>Working within an ITIL framework</p></li><li><p>Experience of Openshift</p></li><li><p>Willingness to obtain SC clearance</p></li></ul><p><p><p>Desirable:<br />Experience of containerisation such as Docker and Kurbenetes<br />Experience of automation techniques such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, Gitlab</p><p><p><p>Relocation:</p><p>This position does not offer relocation.
