Find your future with us.</p><p></p><p>Boeing is looking for a<b> </b><b>Metal Additive Manufacturing Analytics Graduate Researcher </b>to join the growing team in Boeing Additive Manufacturing Intelligence Center. This role will be located in El Segundo, CA.</p><p></p><p>Additive manufacturing brings enormous opportunities to Boeing, including innovative designs, advanced tooling, individualized services, and many more. The rapid advancement of additive manufacturing industrialization at Boeing calls for a systematic and practical understanding of the printing process and its correlations to properties and part design. Such understanding requires the physics-based and data-driven simulation, monitoring, and analytics of all the critical steps in the design to additive manufacturing process chain. The end goal is to leverage these intelligent approaches to enhancing the quality and efficiency of designing and manufacturing additive parts.</p><p></p><p>Working within the Boeing Additive Manufacturing Intelligence Center, you will be on the forefront to develop and deploy advanced computing technologies to address the immediate use cases and the strategic business needs. You will partner with Boeing internal teams, universities, and public institutes to rapidly mature emerging technologies trends and products. You will work directly with additive manufacturing customers at Boeing to apply the technologies to address their needs in quality control, process development, digital shop floor, etc. You will assist in customer consultations; deliver major system components for a deployment effort. You will also contribute to R&D proposals, as well as influence colleagues and direct customers to use appropriate computational tools and processes.</p><p></p><p><b>Position Responsibilities:</b></p><ul><li>Develop advanced computing technologies to capture and correlate the design, material, printing, and post process characteristics; apply the technologies in various additive manufacturing use cases, such as:<ul><li>Process monitoring: detect anomalies on a build layer through the analysis of optimal/thermal images and other sensored data, execute preventive measures to improve build quality</li><li>Post process inspection: analysis of NDT data for part inspection and quality control</li><li>Digital shop floor: assist the implementation of shop floor digital solutions; define data management strategy; enable feedback loop to design environment</li></ul></li><li>Drive the validation of physics-based tools and computing algorithms with experimental data</li><li>Assist the deployment of the mature technologies; perform necessary enhancements</li><li>Compile best fit methods, best practices, and lessons learned; author relevant specifications and user manuals</li><li>Collaborate with external partners, such as universities, industries, and public agencies, to fulfill business needs</li><li>Provide technical solutions to complex problems that require ingenuity and creativity</li></ul><p></p><p><b>Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.</b></p><p></p><p><b>Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):</b></p><ul><li>Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a Doctorate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field of Study</li><li>Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during the summer</li><li>This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a US Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee</li></ul><p></p><p><b>Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):</b></p><ul><li>3+ years of academic and industrial experience programming with MATLAB or similar languages (R, Minitab, C, Java, Tableau, etc.)</li><li>1+ years of experience developing data science algorithms to aid and assist in optimization and predictive analysis</li><li>MS in the relevant fields of study</li><li>1+ years of experience with Additive Manufacturing technologies</li><li>Working experience with one or more advanced computing technologies as applied in Additive Manufacturing: adaptive sampling approaches such as Latin hypercube sampling, machine learning, data analytics, image/signal processing, statistical process control, neural network, numerical modeling of process and material such as principal component analysis, Monte Carlo simulation and time series modeling, ICME, process-structure-property correlations, and others</li><li>Demonstrated application-driven experience in additive manufacturing</li><li>Experience with heat transfer issues related to Additive Manufacturing</li><li>Experience with agile tool development, such as MVP, V-model</li><li>Hands-on experience with Python, R, Matlab, and/or other data analytics platform and toolboxes</li><li>Hands-on experience with implementing data acquisition on a shop floor environment</li><li>Experience with the Software Development lifecycle (including Requirements Analysis, Design, Code, Integration & Test)</li></ul><p></p><p><b>Relocation:</b></p><p>This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.</p><p></p><p><b>Drug Free Workplace:</b></p><p>Boeing is a Drug Free Workplace where post offer applicants and employees are subject to testing for marijuana, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, PCP, and alcohol when criteria is met as outlined in our policies.</p><p></p><p>In locations where SPEEA representation applies, this job family will be covered by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
